Asian Health in Aotearoa: Findings from the New Zealand Health Survey 2002 – 2021
TANI (The Asian Network Incorporated) commissioned this report which provides a current picture of the health status of the New Zealand population using data collected in the 2019–20 and 2020–21 annual survey periods from the following six ethnic groupings: South Asian, Chinese, Other Asian, Māori, Pacific, and European & Other. Comparisons have also been made between South Asian, Chinese, and Other Asian participants to identify any trends in the Asian community during 2002–03 to 2019–21.
Easy Read consent form for research projects
Research consent forms are often complex and difficult to understand and comprehend - meaning that informed research participation isn’t achieved. For English as a second language populations this can be an additional barrier to research participation.
Nicolina Newcombe developed an Easy Read Consent Form as part of her University of Waikato PhD project, which was reviewed by her advisor with a learning disability, Glen Terry. Easy Read uses easy to understand words and pictures to make information accessible for people with learning disability.
Her template is available for all to use. If you use it and have it translated into other languages, please let us know so we can share this resource for other researchers to adopt.
Community perspectives and responses to potentially establishing an ethnic community-led research and evaluation centre, 2022
This report presents the findings from a study conducted to gather community perspectives and responses to potentially establishing an ethnic community-led research and evaluation centre in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The study involved interviews, focus groups and a community survey conducted in 2021. As part of this project, the authors also reached out to organisations that carried out similar research to find out how they had established and ran their organisations. The research identified ways that a dedicated ethnic community-led research and evaluation centre committed to the production and dissemination of ethnic community research could provide value to communities.
The research results have been used to inform the development of Ethnic Research Aotearoa.
