Ethnic Research Aotearoa (ERA) seeks to give voice and visibility to ethnic communities for inclusive, equitable, and impactful policy and services. ERA is governed by a Trust that oversees and makes decision on its direction and services. Trust members are elected to cover the range of skills and expertise necessary for effective and efficient administration of the Trust’s responsibilities, to its funders, its members, and ethnic communities.

Our draft/work-in-progress strategy for 2026-2030 shows what we aim to focus on in the coming years.

ERA is seeking to appoint at least two new Trustees. Existing trustees are particularly interested in individuals with the following experience and skills:

• Represent, or demonstrated support of, communities of culture, ethnicity, former refugees, and/or faith.

• Interest or experience in research, evaluation, government-funded service delivery, and/or public policy

• Legal (compliance, contracts, health and safety)

• Financial (budgeting, financial analysis, profit and loss, risks)

• Technology (AI, data, IT systems, sovereignty, cyber attacks)

Trustee meetings currently take place every two months for approximately 1.5 hours, virtually, with special meetings arranged as required. This is a voluntary role. Time at meetings and other ERA activities are not reimbursed.
